SAVE A KITTY

Our Story

Saving Sampson got its start when founder Kristy Denning began building her home in Sampson county, NC, and witnessed a desperate feral cat colony near her new neighbors. It started with three little kittens from that house, two quickly adopted into new forever homes. But that left Holden, the baby boy of the trio. He had to undergo eye removal surgery and a long recovery in Kristy and her daughter, Savannah's, care.

Kristy and Savannah, realizing how many cats needed aid in Sampson, researched local programs to help feral cat colonies, and in the process, came across nothing! They knew then that they'd have to do something, to stop more kittens like Holden from going through that suffering.

Word of mouth took off. Kristy had people calling in desperate need of help across the county. So, in November of 2021, Saving Sampson Inc. became the first and only non-profit TNR program in Sampson county. Since it's founding, over 150 feral cats have been trapped, neutered, and released to help stop overcrowding in shelters and quell the feral cat population.

Weekly Spotlight!

This week's spotlight is our boy Rocko!

The fact that Rocko has not been adopted is a CRIME!!

Rocko was found roaming an area known for having strays or dumped animals. He was COVERED with ticks and fleas. His life up until this point has been very unkind.

Despite this, he has the best personality! He's a smaller dog, he has a 2 yr old little girl for a best friend, multiple sized dogs, and he isn't concerned with the cats in his foster home.

Interested in Rocko? Email us for more information and see our adoptions tab for a copy of our adoption form!

What is TNR?

Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR), or as we prefer, Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return (TNVR) is the best humane approach to addressing community cat populations.

With TNVR, feral cats are trapped, transported to the vet to be spayed or neutered and vaccinated for rabies and other diseases and then returned to where they were trapped. This technique helps these cats live healthier and improves their lives. In turn, the community benefits because the feral and community cat population stabilizes and declines over time.

WE DO NOT RELOCATE CATS!!
